GPS, Satnav and Beyond
Knowing where you are...exactly
There are many ways our explorations of space have led to new technologies, though satellites have perhaps had the most obvious effect on our daily lives. Early uses were just (?!?) for communication, allowing live news reports from the other side of the world, and networks that span the globe. More recently GPS - the Global Positioning System has led to new applications. The first to hit the high street was SatNav but much more is likely to follow.
Watch out out our magazine Special Issue on Computer Science in Space due in the Autumn of 2008 ...or read it all online.
